I headed straight to mom’s to tell her that I couldn’t be the family heir. That Corvus or one of my other nephews could be heir instead. But when I got to the house I found Carina and the kids all in tears.
It turns out that very morning mom passed away.
We were all devastated.
As heir Carina and the others were all looking at me to take charge of her funeral and affairs.
The next few days were a blur as we prepared for mom’s funeral. My sister’s were all there along with their kids. Several of mom’s nieces and nephews came.
At the funeral I was asked to give the eulogy.
“Belinda Constar was an amazing writer, sister, and mother. She loved us with her whole heart and wanted nothing more than to see us happy. She instilled in all of her children the importance of family, friendship and loyalty. While she struggled her whole life with jealousy issues she never let that stand in her way of being a remarkable heir for the Constar family. I only hope that I can be half the heir that she was.”
Mom was laid to rest in newly built Constar Heir Crypt next to her father, step-mother and grandparents.
Speaking of Atlas and Allison Constar, they both made an appearance at the funeral.
Several other family members spoke about mom and the impact she had on their lives.
I was so touched by the turnout and all the kind words everyone had to say about her.
After the funeral life seemed to go back to normal for everyone else. But I felt lost. Everly was gone. Mom was gone. Then things got worse when I tanked my tryout for the Llamas. It looked like all of my dreams were going up in smoke.
I stopped working out. Started ordering pizza and eating junk food. The fit body I had worked my whole life for started to fade away as I gained weight. I still had my tech guru job but started skipping work or going in late. It got so bad that I was eventually fired.
If not for the dogs I am not sure I would have left the house. I did of course still take the dogs for short walks but gone were our long morning jogs.
One day Corvus showed up and said, “Jonathan and I are worried about you. Look we were planning on going to Sulani to visit Curtis and Cooper. We think you should come with us. Your sister can watch the dogs while we are gone. What do you say?”
I wanted to say no but the thought of the beach and sunshine did sound appealing. “Okay, sure I’ll join you,” I said.
A few days later we arrived in beautiful Sulani. Cooper and Curtis were thrilled to see us and eager to show us around the island.
Jonathan and Corvus were treating the trip like a honeymoon so they went off by themselves to spend time alone together.
Curtis, Cooper and I rented jet skis and spent time racing each other.
We also went swimming and tried snorkeling.
I even met a dolphin.
For lunch Curtis grilled some of the fish he caught earlier that morning. While we ate the guys filled me in on life on the island including some local legends.
“Be careful about going into the water at night,” Curtis said.
“Why are their sharks?” I asked.
“No, but there are sirens,” he said.
“Sirens?” I asked confused as to what he was talking about.
“He is talking about mermaids,” Cooper said. “They say that if you go into the water at night mermaids will come and carry you away.”
“That’s crazy,” I said. “There are no such thing as mermaids.”
“Says the guy who is heir of a family of aliens. A guy who will need to get abducted and go through an implantation process,” Cooper teased.
“Good point,” I said.
After lunch we went site seeing to the active volcano and visited a beautiful waterfall. Sadly the waterfall reminded me of the ones Everly and I had seen in both Granite Falls and Salvadorada.
To get my mind of Everly the guys took me exploring in a cave where we found some cool shells and other treasures. I also managed to find some new harvestables like coconuts and pineapples to bring home to the greenhouse.
That evening we joined Jonathan and Corvus for drinks at a local tiki bar.
They had this awesome signature drink that they served in coconuts.
Corvus pulled me aside and said, “Jonathan and I have an important announcement but wanted you to be the first to know. We are going to be parents.”
“Wow that’s fantastic,” I said. “Are you going to adopt?”
“Actually no,” Corvus said. “I’m pregnant.”
“You were abducted?!” I exclaimed. I was surprised as we all live in Newcrest and I hadn’t heard anything about a recent abduction. But then I have been out of it for awhile.
“Actually no to that too,” Corvus said. “As you know Jonathan and I are both scientists. We figured out how the Sixam Pollination Technician’s have been impregnating male sims. Once we thought for sure we had figured it out we experimented and it worked. The baby I’m carrying will be our biological child.”
“Wow, that’s amazing,” I said. “I am so happy for the both of you.”
While I was happy for them I had to admit I was jealous. Maybe I inherited that trait from mom after-all. I am the family heir yet my fiance left me, I am nowhere near close to completing the bodybuilding aspiration, and I have yet to be abducted by aliens (though I haven’t really tried for that one).
Shortly after Corvus’s big announcement we went to a party on the beach. Someone was making pork in a fire pit under these big leaves.
Someone else brought a big bowl of a local drink called Kava. I started drinking way more Kava then I should have.
Eventually, I found myself down by the water. It was a warm night so I figured what could it hurt to just wade into the water.
I was looking out at the stars reflecting over the ocean, thinking of Everly, when I saw this incredible light and something moving towards me in the water.
I was shocked when I realized the guys had been right — there are mermaids.
As she approached the shore I saw her flip in the water and emerge on two legs.
She walked up to me and said, “My name is Sirena. What’s yours?”
“Castor,” I said finding myself mesmerized by her.
“Castor, you look like a man deeply troubled. What can I, Sirena, do to help make you feel better?”
“I am not sure if there is anything you can do. I am just thinking about my ex-fiance. She would have loved it here.”
“I see,” she said. “You are mourning a lost love. Sirena is definetly able to help you with that. Come let me show you the waterfall. It is beautiful at night.”
“I already saw the waterfall earlier with my cousins,” I said thinking there was no way I was going off with a woman I just met. One who also happens to not only be a mermaid but also likes to refer to herself in the first person.
“But you haven’t seen it at night and you haven’t seen it with Sirena,” she said flirtatiously.
She then proceeded to start singing the most beautiful song I had ever heard. Suddenly, I was willing to follow this enchanting creature anywhere.
I got on my jet ski and followed her to the waterfall. She was right it was beautiful at night.
She led me under the spray of the falls and put her hands on my waist.
She then started kissing me.
One thing led to another and we ended up woohooing in the waterfall.
Afterwards I managed to make my way back to Curtis and Cooper’s house where I passed out on a lounge by the pool.
Curtis and Cooper woke me up the next morning. “We saw you talking to a beautiful red head and then suddenly you were gone,” Cooper said teasingly. “Did you leave with her? Where did you go?”
“You guys won’t believe this. Her name was Sirena and she was a mermaid. You guys were right there are mermaids.”
“WOW, what did she do to you? Did she try to take you back to her cave and eat you? How did you escape?”
“It was nothing like that,” I said. “She was more of a seductress then she was evil. She took me out to the waterfall and we woohooed.”
“Good for you, man,” Cooper said. “I little rebound vacation woohoo was just what you needed to get over Everly.”
Just like that it was like cold water and had been splashed on my face. How could I have forgotten even for a second about Everly. How could I have slept with someone else? I know she left me to pursue her dreams but it still feels like I cheated on her.
“Way to go man,” Curtis said to Cooper. “You just had to go and bring up his ex.”
“Sorry man, my bad. I just meant you can’t dwell on your relationship with Everly forever. You need to live your life and become the heir your mom would want you to be.”
I knew Cooper was right. It was time I stopped moping around. It was time I started living my life as the Constar heir.
The rest of my visit I put Everly out of my mind. I helped Cooper clean up the beach.
Went fishing with Curtis.
And toured the islands.
I took a ton of beautiful photos including some under water shots.
After returning home from Sulani I was excited to greet the dogs and I could tell they were equally happy to see me.
After spending some time with them I got in a good workout.
I then got on the phone to see if I could find any job at all in the athletic career. Thankfully I managed to find one as a team mascot.
It’s not ideal, I think I look ridiculous in this outfit, but at least I have my foot in the door.
When not at work or spending time with the dogs I have been visiting family. Carina is pregnant with her fourth child. So much for her “hates children” trait.
My niece Dove is an adorable toddler who loves to play.
My nephew Dawson just became a teenager.
And my nephew Dyson is now a child. I feel guilty for missing so much of their lives.
I have also been going over to visit Corvus and Jonathan. Corvus is now in his second trimesters and starting to show pretty good sized baby bump.
I realized that my life had revolved around Everly for so long that I hadn’t spent a lot of time with my sister’s or other family members. I decided to host a big house party for Winterfest. I decorated the house and invited my four older sisters, their families, Corvus and Jonathan, as well as Jonathan’s parents and younger brother.
I got a tree and everyone helped decorate it.
I made a grand feast.
We all exchanged gifts and had a great time.
There was only one awkward moment when Mrs. Lewis mentioned Everly’s new album but I didn’t let it phase me. I still miss her greatly but it doesn’t hurt as much anymore. I am proud of her for following her dreams and thrilled for her success.
Over the next several months I focused on regaining my fitness skill.
I took the dogs jogging.
And started doing yoga in the morning.
Carina gave birth to a beautiful baby boy named Denning. He is named after a crater on the moon.
Corvus gave birth to a beautiful baby boy named Dryden. He is also named after a crater on the moon.
That summer I got a call from Cooper.
“Hey, man, what’s up?” I asked.
“Dude you better get back to Sulani,” Cooper said.
“What!? Why? Is everything okay with you? With Curtis?” I asked concerned.
“We are fine. But remember that red head mermaid you hooked up with on your visit.”
“She showed up at the house this morning looking to get in touch with you. Seems pretty urgent.”
“Why the urgency?” I asked.
“Well if I had to guess, I’d say it’s because she looks to be around nine months pregnant. Oh, and she says the baby is yours.”
I was so shocked I dropped the phone.
